seems like things have not moved on much with demountable camper design since I last had one (over 6 years ago). Prices have seemed to have risen astronomically through! with many costing way more than a luxury Motorhome, no wonder demountables remain a niche area....
not sure what they are called but what about the extendable, rising roof campers? (suitable for a king cab. can anyone give me some examples of good models please, prefer the clam shell style where whole roof rises. cant tent part be insulated?

You mean a Popup?
There are a number of companies that will custom-build campers like the one on the pic you posted. ExCab, for instance, who built this beauty for a forum member: wohnkabinen-magazin.de/forum/sonstige-ka...mitstart=0&start=125
Edit: here are pics of our camper: plus.google.com/u/0/photos/1045817542619.../5649697271345346881
All of the mfg above can and will build campers that fit on Navara-sized PUs.

Sure it can. But it still won't be a hardwall. I have an american-made OutfitterMfg camper which fares quite well in the cold. Als long as you have enough propane and electricity to run the furnace. There are other companies (HallmarkRV, Phoenix, Northstar, Four WheelCampers) that do make excellent softwall popups. Cheap, they are not - and all of these are made in the US.cant tent part be insulated?

thanks Lance! yes I guess I mean a pop up but with the whole roof rising like yours...are there no european manufacturers as USA campers dont really appeal that much but the Hallmark look kinda OK quality wise. not sure if they do a european king cab size model though

I know that wohnkabinencenter had a new small popup out a short while ago. Other than that, I am not aware of any popup manufacturers outside the US of A. Which, of course, doesn't mean there are none.
Wohnkabinencenter also imports Four Wheel Campers, which are very rugged and quite suitable for euro pickups.
Northstar (not Nordstar) campers are officially imported to germany. They make a good product.
For both, you can get winter packs for the canvas, as far as I know.
Hallmark RV (wood or Coosa or Aluminum frame) and OutfitterMfg (aluminum frame) make very good products, too. Both will sell to you directly and you need to take care of the shipping yourself. So will Phoenix. Contact any of them directly and tell them what you want to do. Their camper solutions for euro trucks will probably not have a bathroom. But all of them build highly individual products and will definitely cater to your needs. The price is another issue, though. And of course you are pretty much on your own when something goes wrong - unless you have a qualified shop nearby who is willing to work on one of these campers.
The used market for any of these is tiny - and whatever used TC pops up is often in bad shape.
Edit: Just to show you what the ppl at Phoenix do: www.truckcampermagazine.com/off-road-exp...mog-truck-camper-rig

One additional information about phoenixcamper.com:
They build small Popupcampers with a cassette toilet and a inside shower. You can find lots of informations here:
www.truckcampermagazine.com/phoenix-campers/
about campers with "wet bath":
www.truckcampermagazine.com/news/tcm-exc...pulse-self-contained
the manufacturer:
phoenixpopup.com/mini-mid-size-floor-plans/
These floorplans are not completely fix. They build the camper matching to you wishes as far as possible.
ave a look at their gallery and their Flickr-Site.

Hallmark weight: look here:
74.52.134.54/~hallmark/wp-content/upload...allmark-brochure.pdf
Phoenix: depending on the individual cabin, but lightweight, so you will have a real chance also for Navara
Ask Cari about cabins matching on Nissan Frontier
